Real Family

A couple weeks later their mom told them she found a house for them to rent. Debbie would be baby sitting them and Judy could come over with her.DeAnna set up her room. She had bought some teen magazines and tore out the pictures of Donny Osmond & David Cassidy to hang on her wall. Weekends were great. There was woods behind the house they would go and explore. They were next door to someone who had a huge garden. They sneak in there and steal watermelons. The neighbors found out and told on them so they had to stop. One weekend day DeAnna decided she that she wanted to call Donny Osmond. So she got on the phone and called the operator to get his telephone number. The operator told her she couldn't give out his phone number. DeAnna got so upset she went into her room and tore down all her pictures. And didn't like Donny Osmond anymore.A few months later her mom told her they were moving to Australia with Tony. She was working on their pass ports. But time went by and the next thing she knew they were moving to the U.P. of Michigan. It was a very small town, population of around 400, called Germfask. They had bought 40 acres with a cabin. It was on Ten Curves Road. That was because about a mile past their cabin was a little park area down to a river. From their on the road had ten SHARP curves to follow the river.

The trip was 6 hours. They took two cars, the girls in one, the boys in the other. Both cars were loaded down with things they needed. It was rather crapped but DeAnna was excited to see where they would be soon living. She hated the city. She was a country girl at heart. Big Tony bought a Siberian Husky female to take with them up north. Her name was Minka. She was beautiful.

Finally they crossed the Mackinaw Bridge. It was right at six miles long over the Great Lakes. It was beautiful. As they traveled away from the bridge they got into some thick woods. The evergreens were big and beautiful. It gave her a feeling of love and peace. And it even had the feeling of black bears. It was like you knew it was full of wildlife.

By the end of the day they pulled up to a cabin. It was small only two bedrooms. Her mom and Tony got one room the boys got the other and the girls had to sleep on the front room floor. They were tired and at the time didn't care. They all unpacked the cars and had a bite to eat. Everyone went to sleep early that night.

After they were done getting things settled in the house the next day they all went out to explore the property. It was exciting. There was so much land. The cabin house was about a three acre clearing the rest of the land was mostly woods. Right in the back of the cabin was what they called the first clearing. Behind that was the second clearing. To the left was another clearing. And behind that was a big pond in the woods.
One night when DeAnna was asleep on the floor in the front room she awoke to the sounds of Tony and her mom running out of their bedroom. She heard some loud cries from outside. Tony had a gun and was heading out the front door. Then she heard a big BANG! Tony came back in and said there was a Canadian Lynx out in the front yard. That was one of the first things they were told about wondering in the woods, if you hear a baby crying in the woods DON'T go after it. It was a Lynx. They were also told what type of trees to climb if you saw a bear. It couldn't be too big because they could climb it. And it couldn't be too small because they could knock it down to get you. But they were told they would usually just run if they saw you. Unless they had babies around. Then you really had to be careful. They were very protective of them.
The following days they walked into town which was seven miles. It was very small a restaurant, store with gas. On the side of that was a hotel with restaurant which was empty. Her & Judy got inside to explore it. It was cool! They didn't stay in long scared they might get in trouble.
Across from that was a bar. Behind that a small post office. Down the road was another bar. And down from that was a small store with gas. Across from the store was the "Wagon Wheel" restaurant and motel. Behind the store was a full service gas station. And down from that was a elementary school. It went up to the eighth grade. One the other side of the gas station was a public well. The cabin they moved into did not have running water so they bought seven five gallon plastic jugs to haul their water in for the house. They all had to take turns driving into town even though none of them had a drivers license. The nearest police was in a town 60 miles away. They never saw police in Germfask it was never needed. And if anyone was ever hurt it was up yourself to rush into the hospital. A bottle of drinking water was kept in the refrigerator and they would boil their water to wash dishes and to sponge bathe.
