Anthony came by that next morning. The boys were in school and DeAnna was packing up everything she had. Somethings to be
given away. Others she would store at her grandparents until she got out.
"Hey!" Anthony said as he walked in the door.
"Hi!" DeAnna said rather quietly. "Come on in."
"So what's the verdict?" He asked as he walked around seeing all the boxes packed up.
"Well, they gave me a four year sentence in prison. But from what I understand I should only have to do four months."
"Yes, that's the way the system works. There's so many crimes out there and they don't have much room to keep everyone."
"I got a friend who is gonna take James and Keith. She lives in Brantley County. And I got a hold of Steve through
his sister in Michigan. John's gonna go to his dad's in California."
"Well, that's good. At least the boys will have a place to go."
DeAnna was packing more boxes and suddenly broke down and cried. Anthony walked over and hugged her. He knew a good bit
about her childhood and life.
"Yesss, go ahead and let it out! Everything will be alright!" He held her for quit sometime. Then finally let
her go. "I really hate it but I have to leave. I just wanted to check up on you."
"I know!" DeAnna said as she dried her eyes.
"I'll come back later when I can."
"Ok! Thank you!"
Anthony went out the door. And DeAnna ran up to her room to cry again. She had cried for what seemed like hours. How could
this be happening? She was losing her boys, a home and even the business she started. Other than drinking she had not done
anything wrong. She worked hard and took good care of her boys. They loved her and she loved them. She finally got her self
out of bed and went back downstairs to do some more backing. It wasn't long when the boys came in from school. They would
usually take off to play and do their homework after dinner. But they knew what was going on and you could tell by the look
on their faces. She stopped what she was doing. She only had a week to get rid of things and get the boys settled to turn
herself in.
"Come on!" She said. "Get out of your school clothes and let's go walk on the beach!" They played
around on the beach until it got dark. She did her best to not let her pain show.
She gave away most everything she owned. Her grandparents took her to Jacksonville airport so John could go to his dad
in California. She put John on the plane and told the steward he would be traveling alone. They assured he would be taken
care of.
"I love you so much!" She told John before he boarded and hugged him dearly. The tears rolled down her face.
"They will keep a close eye on you."
John cried "I don't want to go!"
"I know. But this is how it has to be."
The steward walked over to take him a board the plane. "It's time to go." She said as she took his hand and
led him away. DeAnna just stood there and watched him board. She watched out the window as the plane flew off. God, how she
was gonna miss him.
On the trip back DeAnna rode in the back seat and screamed the whole 45 min trip back to Brunswick. Her grandparents
stopped at Shoney's to eat. She could pull herself to eat a thing.

DeAnna turned herself in. They kept her in the detention center before sending her off to Hardwick Womens Prison. She was
in a cell by herself. She spent most her time to herself crying or reading books. They made her as trusty. She made up herself
a calendar on paper up to four months. Which she had set in her mind she would be out.
Each day she was there it felt like an eternity. Knowing she lost her children and everything she worked hard for. She
spent the days looking out her window knowing summer was passing her by. There would be no days laying on the beach with her
boys playing all around her.
All night every night she'd lay in her bunk crying. She felt she was paying the price for everything her fathers had ever
done to her. Sure she knew drinking and driving was now a crime. But did anyone of them ever pay for what they had done to
her? And what she had to deal with every night in her head. She often wished there was a button you could just push to forget
all the things in the past. She had tried moving to Georgia to forget everything. But the funny thing she found was at night
when you go to sleep these memories would haunt you in your sleep. Which then made it very hard for her to deal with day to
day life. Even though where she lived it was good! Even to her like HEAVEN!! But the nights would be pure HELL!! She cried
night after night. She felt like she had never cried so much in all of her life.
Finally she was sent to Hardwick Women's Prison. When she got there she could feel the evil around the place.
It was so thick it felt as you could cut it with a knife. There was a eight foot chain link fence with bobwire round the top.
Which surrounded the building. They removed the handcuffs and she was taken into a room and told to strip. A lady guard put
on a pair of rubber gloves. She inserted her hand up her vagina. Then used the other hand to pry her finger up her
rear end. They searched for drugs. Then was given shampoo and told to shower and was her hair. It had a very strong smell
to it. It was used to remove lice if there was any in her hair. She couldn't believe she was put through all this.
She was then taken to another room and there was a line of around thirty women. All ages and they were lined up in alphabetical
order with their last name.. They all gathered up one pillow and a single cot mattress they were both stained badly. A guard
hand each one a pillow case, one fitted, one flat sheet and one gray blanket that picked like hell. They all lined up and
were drilled with a lady guard at the front and back of the line. They went through a set of locked doors and came into another
room. On each side was a row of doors with only a small window with bars on them on the first and second floor. All the doors
were unlocked at the same time. Each woman was told to step into the room in front of them. As they all did each door was
shut and locked at the same time. There was a loud clank noise behind her as the doors shut. What a terrible deadly feeling
it was. One window in front of her had the sun barely coming through. With bars across it. The walls were all white with one
toilet, a sink and nothing else. DeAnna never felt so lost and alone in all her life. She threw her things on the floor and
just sat there and cried. She cried all into the night.
Why God? Why? These men who harmed her all her life belonged here. NOT HER! What is wrong with this world? How could they
punish her AND NOT ONE OF THEM! WHY?
