That summer was the best summer of DeAnna's life ever! Her and Sherry hung out at Edward Hines Drive Park. It was a 30 mile
long park which ran from Dearborn near the Ford's plant to Northville. All along the way there were baseball fields, park
benches, ponds which in the winter people would ice skate on and the summer fish in, creeks and just wide open spaces. Different
areas had names where people would just hang out at. The Horseshoe and Casbenton were two of the biggest areas people would
hang out at and get high or sell drugs. The Horseshoe was within walking distance from where DeAnna and Sherry lived. And
they hung at there all the time. It was half the size of Cassbenton but that was 15 miles from where they lived. And it was
on a big hill. They'd go there once in awhile but not often.
The Horseshoe was a flat clearing with some trees and a creek running through it. They would play frisbee or just hang
out tripping. There was one guy who hung there who was always so messed up and he'd walk around singing "Walk Your Dog"
by Aerosmith. DeAnna and Sherry loved Aerosmith and most people out there so they'd all just get a kick out of it. No one
every knew if the guy ever had any friends because he was always by his self. But he was quite harmless.
Rose bought the album Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon. DeAnna loved it so much she played it all the time. DeAnna asked
her mom if she could have it. She said no but could play it anytime. They would joke about who's album it was.
DeAnna and Sherry would go to the roller skating rink and meet friends there. Sometimes they'd skate but most the time
they just hung out tripping. Paul really liked DeAnna and was up there one day and kept begging DeAnna to skate but she kept
telling him NO she was tripping and not going out there. He finally talked her into it and when they got out on the floor
for couples. DeAnna knocked an old couple down. She was so embrassed and got off the floor and wouldn't skate anymore.
DeAnna and Sherry would go to concerts tripping. They went to see BTO at Cobo Hall in Detroit. Bob Seager played as a
warm up band wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt. They liked his music and heard he threw free concerts in a barn in Ann Arbor.
They kept it in mind to go check it out sometime.
One Saturday morning they heard he was throwing a free concert. They decided to head out there to see him. They didn't
have much money and were hitch hiking out there to see him. Some people picked them up and said they were going to Yspilanti
to a outdoor concert. They bought tickets for $40. It was Yes, Peter Frampton, Dave Manson and Ace. DeAnna and Sherry decided
to ride with them there. It sound like it would be awesome. So when they got there the others went through the gates. The
tickets were sold out. So DeAnna and Sherry went round the side and crawled under the fence. There was 30,000 people there.
And it was a beautiful sunny day.
They worked their way through the crowd of people and headed for the stage. They stayed by the speakers. Everyone was
smoking pot and passing the joints around. They got so high they were seeing trails from the balloons people were hitting
back and forth through the air. People were getting so high they had stretchers carrying people off who were OD'ing. The concert
was excellent! They had a BLAST!
A few weekends later Bob Seager was playing at Michigan Palace. He came out with a hit album Beautiful Loser. They were
both tripping on Acid. When they first got through the doors all the walls were mirrors. DeAnna was so high she was afraid
of walking into herself. Bob Seager got out on stage wearing a black and white tuxedo with a long tail trailing him. Although
DeAnna thought he was still cute she thought he looked better in blue jeans. He went on tour after that. And no longer threw
any free concerts. They were both wishing they would of made it to at least one of them. Who would of known he'd make it so
big so fast.
One night it was just DeAnna and her mom drinking together listening Pink Floyd. Her mom went to bed. DeAnna cleaned up
the kitchen and shut off all the lights and locked the door and headed to bed. She heard her mom crying in her bedroom.
"Mom?" DeAnna called as she knocked on the door. "Are you alright?" She asked as she opened her bedroom
door. The light was on and the radio was playing and her mom was drinking sitting on the bed drinking a drink and crying.
"What's wrong?" DeAnna asked as she walked over to sit next to her on the bed.
"You just don't know." Her mom cryed.
"What? What is it?" DeAnna said hugging her tight.
"It's your dad. You know the reason why I left him? He forced me into having sex with his hunting dog, Duke!"
And she cried even harder. "That's why I left him!"
DeAnna was shocked she didn't know what to say. She had always wished they would get back together. But now she knew the
truth. How horraffing! How could he do a thing like that she thought? Her dad!
"No, momma! That cann't be true!" DeAnna started to cry with her. "No, it's not possible!"
"Yes! It's true! It was a night when we were all drinking and everyone had left." She cried as they held each
other tight. They sat there just holding each other crying for quite sometime.
"I'm sorry I shouldn't of told you." Her mom said as she pulled her self away.
"No, momma! I'm glad you did. Now I know why you left and don't want him back."
"I loved him so much. But I hate him now. I didn't want to do it. But he gets so violent when he's drinking. You
know I sometimes feel like it's just you and me against the world." Her mom cried as she held her tight. "I need
to go to sleep now. I have to get up to go to work shortly."
"Are you gonna be ok?" DeAnna asked as she got up to go to her room.
"Yes, I'm tired. I'll be alright."
"Well, let me know if you need anything." They hugged each other again.
"You know how much I love you." Her mom said. "I'll see you tomorrow after work."
"Yes, I love you too. Good night!" DeAnna said as she left the room bewildered. DeAnna went to her room and
cried herself to sleep. How could her dad do such a thing? DeAnna couldn't believe it. It wasn't right! Finally she drifted
off to sleep.
