him sitting in a chair in front of his stove with the heat turn to broil. With his feet propped up keeping them warm. They'd
sit and play cribbage with him which he taught them how to play. They'd often spend all day with him. He'd always be telling
jokes and stories. They really enjoyed spending time with him.

of socks, two pairs of pants, three shirts, then your coat, boats and hat. When you'd breathe through your nose your nose

They'd spend all summer cutting wood for the wood stove, which was all they had for heat. On winter school days no one
ever wanted to be the first one up out of bed. You'd wake up and see your breath it was so cold. Who ever was the first one
up had to restart the wood stove. It would go out through the night if no one ever got up to add more wood. They slept with
three sleeping bags on them. The snow would often get six feet deep. They would often miss school because the bus would be
unable to pick them up.
One day it had snowed so much they were unable to open the doors for over 2 weeks. She heard about the waves even freezing
in the air on Lake Superior. They had to send Jimmy to snow shoe into town to buy food because their food supply was so low.
