CHAPTER 8 - Betrayed

Duane took her to the local cabins for rent. She had a welfare check for John so got a one room cabin to live in. Duane helped her carry the bags in.
"You sure you want to do this?" Duane asked DeAnna.
"Yes! I'm never going back to that house EVER AGAIN!"
"Ok! But before I leave why don't I run you over to the store to get some things for you to eat."
"Alright!" So they went to the local store and DeAnna grabbed sandwiches, chips and sodas. The rooms had a frig so she got enough for a few days.
"I'll get some other things when my mom comes to visit. Thank you Duane!" He dropped her off back at the cabin. It had a tv. She put everything up then changed and fed the baby. After feeding the baby she walked over to the phone booth and called her mom. She didn't say what had happened she just told her mom she left Steve and where she was. She was so angry she knew if Steve found out he'd kill his dad. And then he might feel justified for not being at home with her and John when he should of. She swore she'd NEVER LET HIM KNOW FOR THAT REASON!!!!!!!!!
Steve came round the next day. Knocking on the door.
"Go away!" DeAnna yelled through the door.
"Open up! I want to talk to you!" Steve said.
"No, just go away!" DeAnna yelled even louder and then John started crying.
The landlords looked out to see what was going on. "Alright! I'll go for now but I'll be back." He said as he got into his car and tore out like a bat out of hell!
DeAnna picked up Johnny and just held him and rocked him. "I'll never let anyone hurt you!" She said as they cried together.
That weekend DeAnna's mom came by with her little sister. John and Angelia played good together. Angelia, being a few months older, would push John around in his walker giving him kisses the whole time round. It was so cute! DeAnna really enjoyed her mom coming by to visit.
Steve would still come by once in awhile but DeAnna wouldn't talk with him. She let him spend sometime with John there at the cabin. But it was so weird. As she looked at Steve it was as if she saw him in a different way. It was like a cloud had been lifted from her eyes and she seen him for what he was. Him and his dad so into sex. She hated it!
DeAnna had a friend who lived down the road and told her she'd babysit for her so she could go out one night. DeAnna went to the Seney Bar. A few friends were in there. DeAnna had a good time. She met this new guy, Jim Hollingshead. She got to talking with him alone at a table and spilled the beans about being raped. They started hanging out and seeing each other. He was really good to her. He bought tickets to see a concert in Marquette which was 120 miles away. They started out early his cousin and girlfriend was going with them. They headed out Jim was driving his Chevelle. DeAnna thought it was a cool car. As they got quite the ways out of town. Steve pulled up in his Tornino and was trying to cut them off the road.
"Jim, pull over!" DeAnna yelled to him.
So Jimmy pulled over and DeAnna jumped out of the car. And Steve came over to her.
"What do you think you're doing? We're still married!" He yelled at her.
"Yea, well not for long! I've had it with your late nights and running around on me! Enough!" DeAnna said as she jumped back in the car. Steve took off like a bat out of hell. When they got to the concert Steve and Duane was sitting in the sits already. Oh my God! DeAnna thought. That's ok. He's not gonna ruin my fun! DeAnna hugged onto Jimmy tight and tried not to look at Steve.
DeAnna kept seeing Jimmy. She had longed to see Tony though. She had thought of telling him to meet her behind the Wagon Wheel restaurant in Germfask. But felt she couldn't really do that to Steve. How it would really hurt him. But she wanted to so bad!
DeAnna found out she was pregnant. She couldn't believe it! She had asked the doctors to tie her tubes. But they said she was too young!!!! So they talked her into having the IUD coil done so SHE WOULDN'T GET PREGNANT!!!! She put off going to have herself checked. She never thought she could get pregnant!!! It moved out of place, the doctor said. Yea, well GREAT!!! She was now carrying another baby. With now where really to live. AND HARDLY ANY MONEY!!! It was Jimmy's baby. He was so happy. He said they'd get married and buy a house. He had one in mind and showed it to her. It was a really nice looking house. Rather new and big. He had a good paying job janitor at the retard hospital in Newberry.
The more DeAnna thought about it the more she wasn't sure she loved him enough to marry him. How could she marry someone she hardly loved. She loved Steve with all her heart and look what happened!!!! She finally just broke it off with him. She couldn't bare the thought of marrying him and being together forever!!!!!!!!!

DeAnna finally broke down and got back with Steve. Steve said he would accept the baby even though it wasn't his. But DeAnna didn't want another baby. One was hard enough when you don't have much money. The got a one room cabin in Newberry. Steve worked right down the road at a gas station with a store. She baby sat for her mom while she worked.
DeAnna set up a appointment in lower Michigan. She was already three months along. They said they could still do a abortion. So she hitch hiked to the bus station and took a bus alone 600 miles away.
When she got to the city she was a bit scared by herself and not knowing where anything was. She called for a cab at the bus station. It took her to the doctor's office. She had three hours before her appointment. So she just hung around the area window shopping. Finally it was time to see the doctor. He did x-rays and looked her over. After everything was done he told her she was too far along to have it done. DeAnna started to cry. She came all this way. She didn't want another baby. He talked to her about adoption. DeAnna left the office and headed back to the bus station. It was getting dark and she had 4 hours before her bus got there. She was getting kinda scared. There weren't many people around. And the few there were scarey looking. A man approached her and asked her if she wanted to go for some coffee. He was a older man and seemed nicely dressed so she said yes. He drove her and they went to a nice hotel with restaurant in the area. There wasn't much in the area. They had coffee and talked a bit. Then decided to leave. He took her somewhere different. He started talking to her about becoming a model. He had parked the car where they over looked the city. DeAnna was getting nervous and looked at the door to see if it locked automatically. It did!
"Look, I'm really not interested. I really need to get back to the bus station." She said nervously.
"Ok! I'm not gonna hurt you. If you're not interested that's fine. It's just that you're so cute and young. I thought you might think about it." He said as he headed down the road.
He brought her back and she thanked him. And he drove away. DeAnna was so glad she was back. That was close. Her bus finally pulled up and boy was she happy to be on it. Her mom picked her up from the bus station. She never told anyone about what happened. She was just glad to be home.
As time went on Steve started staying gone all night. She woke up early one morning while Johnny was still asleep she decided to walk down the road to see if she saw Steve's car. There it was down the road at a motel. She was hot!!! She walked into the office and asked what room he was in. They told her and she knocked on the door. Steve answered the door. She knew his old girlfriend Kathy lived there in town. And wanted to know if he was with her. She didn't see anyone.
"What are you doing sleeping in a motel down the road? Not even telling me where you are?"
"I just wanted some time alone! Come on! You left Johnny all alone." He said as he walked out the door. DeAnna decided to move back to Seney and moved in with Judy and her boyfriend.
